The story behind the #LEUPHT funding project
It is not a new thing that Leuphana is regarded as one of Germany’s universities with the best start-up culture. This year that was confirmed once again by the Stifterverband. That is also why, at the fifth Leuphana Night of the Start-Ups on 21 September 2017, we wanted to present something very special: our own craft beer.
Of course beer and brand do not develop on their own. Within a very short time we received voluntary support from our members, former students and founders at Leuphana. Design, product and sales management, communication, PR and the website for our AFL craft beer all come from our alumni network. Today #LEUPHT is available on the platform of another Leuphana alumnus and founder, and in selected Edeka stores in Lüneburg.
#LEUPHT is brewed to its own recipe at the Sommerbecker brewery in Lüneburg. It is unfiltered, naturally made and dry-hopped. The aroma hops also give the beer a note of tropical fruit, so it goes well with food too.
#LEUPHT stands for responsible enjoyment of alcohol and relaxed evenings and days with fellow students, past and present.
50 cents per bottle for AFL funding projects
Of course #LEUPHT is not just a funny idea. It also supports various funding projects of the alumni and friends association.
As a non-profit association, the AFL supports important projects. Alongside its aim of providing a network across generations and disciplines, strengthening alumni ties with former fellow students, teachers and Leuphana University Lüneburg, and contributing to exchange between students and alumni, the AFL funds research, teaching and student projects that cannot be paid for from public funds.
For this purpose, 50 cents from every bottle sold go to the Alumni and Friends Association of Leuphana University Lüneburg.
The people behind the funding project

Marc Brammer
“As the owner of the Sommerbecker brewery, I am very glad that our beer can support a great project. Just like the Alumni and Friends Association of Leuphana, we are happy to support regional projects and good ideas. For the #LEUPHT recipe we followed Leuphana’s maxim and developed an unconventional, innovative beer.”

Marvin Försterling and Sina Salwiczek
“As Leuphana alumni and founders of the craft-beer start-up CraftBeer-Market, we were of course delighted by the idea of LEUPHT – and which university already has its own beer? That is fantastic! That is why we were happy to support the project with our industry know-how.”

Julia Schulte
“Good ideas take courage. Thinking one step further than required and not stopping at the usual option: the creative people behind the LEUPHT funding project have managed that. Hats off! As a former Leuphana student I am very glad to support the project in PR with our know-how.”

Meike Bergmann
“It “leuphts” with us too. Of course I am happy to support this initiative, because the collaboration with various university projects, the cooperation with a Leuphana start-up and the regional character of this beer immediately connected me with the idea. I am glad we can now offer #LEUPHT at Edeka Bergmann.”

Florian Bontrup
“When we registered the domain leupht.de in 2014, it was a joke at first. The hashtag LEUPHT quickly took hold in the university community, because the word perfectly describes the many good experiences and memories that students and alumni have of Leuphana. The university gave me a lot, and I am glad I can now give something back through this campaign.”

Kai Meinecke
“When I was asked whether, because of my studies and my professional work, I could help register the word-and-figurative mark #LEUPHT, I said yes immediately. I am very glad that Leupht is a project that captures the spirit of the times. I greatly enjoyed my studies in Lüneburg and am proud to give something back to Leuphana and the city of Lüneburg as part of this project.”

Tatjana Timoschenko
“In the Entrepreneurship Hub at Leuphana we always try to advance service and product ideas with creative methods. So we are delighted when creative people come together and manage to bring something to market in a short time. We are all the more pleased that this can fund even more student projects. We are curious to see how it continues to LEUPHT.”

Ulf Hinze
“Of course G.V.K. was happy to support the #LEUPHT project with our know-how and experience in label design. Partly because I am a Leuphana alumnus myself, and partly because I consider the network around the AFL, its members and former and current students, to be extremely important. All the better that we can now raise a glass to it.”
